Saturday, May 6, 2006, 10:AM, Harpers Ferry WV 25425, C&O Canal – Harpers Ferry 2-hour Upriver Loop, Self/Group guided casual hike. || TOPO Map || An easy 2-hour, 4-mile loop to Lock 36 with minimal gain and descent. On this loop, everyone hikes at their own pace for 1-hour, turns around, and returns to the starting point no later than 12:pm. Park at the National Park Service (NPS) Visitors Center (fee), take the shuttle bus into town and meet at the NPS information center in-town. From the in-town information center, proceed across the footbridge to the Maryland side of the river and head upriver. Hike upriver for an hour, turn around and come back. Directions: Get a map from MapQuest for Harpers Ferry WV. Whether you come from Virginia or Maryland, proceed on Rt. 340 across the Shenandoah River into WV. Continue on Rt. 340 up the hill to the traffic light and turn left into the NPS Visitors Center. Park and take the NPS shuttle into town. Lunch: Iron Horse Café, 201 Potomac St, Harpers Ferry WV 25425, . As you come back across the bridge, the Iron Horse Café is to your right, a short walk from the railroad depot.

Saturday, May 13, 2006, 10:AM, Harpers Ferry WV 25425, Maryland Heights at Sandy Hook MD, Self/Group guided casual hike. || || TOPO Map || This a tough 4-hour, 6-mile loop with a cumulative gain of 1,534 feet and a similar descent. Park and meet at the trailhead on Sandy Hook Rd near Point Of Interest (POI) number 3 on the trail map. Take the Overlook Cliff Trail out to the overlook for a fantastic photo op at POI 12. Then take the east side of the Stone Fort Trail out to POI 9, 8, 7and 6. Back along the Westside trail and depending on time, back out for a second photo op at POI 12. Otherwise, continue back down to the trailhead. Directions: Get Mapquest map for Sandy Hook MD. From Rt. 340 turn east onto Keep Tryst Rd, turn right onto Sandy Hook Rd., proceed to trailhead and park in marked areas. There is very limited parking in this area and you may find it easier to park in the parking lot for the National Park, take the shuttle into Harpers Ferry, walk across the bridge to the Maryland side of the river, and a short walk upriver to the trailhead. Lunch: Armory Pub, 109 Potomac Ter, Harpers Ferry WV 25425, . Walk across the bridge into the lower part of town, turn right and walk up Potomac Street to the rear entrance of the Pub.

Saturday, May 27, 2006, 10:AM, Brunswick MD 21716, C&O Canal – Brunswick 3-hour Upriver Loop, Self/Group guided casual hike. || TOPO Map || An easy 3-hour, 6-mile loop to Lock 31 with minimal gain and descent. On this loop, everyone hikes at their own pace for 1.5-hours, turns around, and returns to the starting point no later than 1:pm. Park and meet in the commuter lot near the Marc Train station. From the parking lot, walk toward the river and turn to the right onto the tow-path, hike for 1.5-hours and return. Directions: Get a map from MapQuest for Brunswick MD. Whether you come from Virginia up Rt. 672 from Rt. 9, or from Maryland via Rt. 340 and Rt. 17, at the traffic circle turn onto S. Maryland Ave., left onto Potomac St., right onto N. Maple St., and downhill past train station and into parking lot. Lunch: If you feel venturesome, try one of the restaurants near the train station. Otherwise, head up to the shopping center on Rt. 464. From parking lot, head back to traffic circle, head north on Rt. 17 (away from Potomac River Bridge), turn right at traffic light onto Rt. 464. There will be a Roy Rogers and a Subway in the shopping center, but you might want to check out the Green Country Inn, 620 Souder Rd, Brunswick MD 21716, .

Saturday, June 10, 2006, 10:AM, Boonsboro MD 21713, AT in Washington Monument State Park & AT to U.S. Rt. 40, Self/Group guided casual hike. || || TOPO Map || This a moderate 3-hour, 6-mile loop with a cumulative gain of 1,050 feet and a similar descent. Park and meet at the shelter near the trailhead at the top of the online map. Follow the Appalachian Trail (AT) to the Washington Monument. Continue northward on the AT to US Rt. 40 and retrace your steps back. Directions: From Frederick MD, take I-70 West to exit #49, to left at light onto Alt. Rt. 40, head West approximately 10 miles to right on Washington Monument Rd., follow signs to State Park. Lunch: Old South Mountain Inn, 6132 Old National Pike, Boonsboro MD 21713, . As you exit the park turn right onto Alt. US Rt. 40, the restaurant will be on the left.

Saturday, June 17, 2006, 10:AM, Boonsboro MD 21713, Greenbrier State Park, Self/Group guided casual hike. || || TOPO Map || This is an easy 3-hour, 5-mile loop with a cumulative gain of 720 feet and a similar descent. Park and meet in the beach area. Hike counter clockwise around the lake to the area of crossing trails at the top of the red box. The intent is to make your way to the trail that comes down the center of the red box. This should be the trail that follows the ridge of Short Hill. Turn right onto Keadle Rd to the second trailhead near the intersection with Boonsboro Mt. Rd. Follow the center trail back to the entrance roadway, turn left, and head back to the beach area. Directions: From Frederick MD, take I-70 West to exit #42, bear right onto Rt. 17 North, go into the center of Myersville and Rt. 17 will turn right. Follow Rt. 17 to the flashing lights at the intersection of Rt. 40. Turn left onto Rt. 40 west. Follow for three miles and the park is on the left. Lunch: Dogpatch Tavern on Old National Pike. As you exit the park turn right onto Alt. US Rt. 40, the restaurant will be on the left.

Saturday, June 24, 2006, 10:AM, Wolfsville Crossing MD, Point-to-Point along the AT from Rt. 40 to White Oak Rd, Self/Group guided casual hike. Trail Map: PATC Map 5. || TOPO Map || This is a moderate 3-hour, 6-mile point-to-point with a cumulative gain of 760 foot gain and a cumulative descent of 1,130 feet. Park and meet in the small parking area on Rt. 40 near the AT crossing. As a point-to-point, it will be necessary to shuttle one or more vehicles to the end point which is at the end of White Oak Rd. From the parking lot, take the trail down to I-70 where you will pick up the AT. Follow the AT northward with side trips out to Annapolis Rock and Black Rock overlooks. Continue northward on the AT to the Pogo Memorial Campground where you will turn left onto the Thurston Griggs Trail. Follow this trail down to the pickup point at the end of White Oak Rd. If this is being done as a loop, Black Rock is a typical mid-point and you can retrace your steps from this overlook back to the Rt. 40 parking area. Directions: From Frederick MD, take I-70 West to exit #42, bear right onto Rt. 17 North, go into the center of Myersville and Rt. 17 will turn right. Follow Rt. 17 to the flashing lights at the intersection of Rt. 40. Turn left onto Rt. 40 west. Watch for the parking area on the left just before you cross I-70. Directions to Shuttle Drop Off: From the parking area, continue west on Rt. 40 for about 1.5 miles, turn right onto Crystal Falls Rd, go a little more than 2 miles and turn right onto White Oak Rd., park shuttle at end of roadway. Lunch: Dogpatch Tavern on Old National Pike. From the parking lot, continue west on Rt. 40, restaurant will be on the right a short distance after you cross I-70.

Saturday, July 1, 2006, 10:AM, Frederick MD 21702, Catoctin Trail – Gambrill State Park to Fishing Creek Rd, Self/Group guided casual hike. || || TOPO Map || This is an easy 3-hour, 6-mile point-to-point with a cumulative gain of 755 feet and a cumulative descent of 692 feet. Park and meet in the High Knob parking area in Gambrill State Park. As a point-to-point, it will be necessary to shuttle one or more vehicles to the end point which is a parking lot on Fishing Creek Rd. Begin the hike by walking out to the High Knob Overlook and then head north along the west side of the Green Ash Trail (green blaze) towards the Park Office to the junction with the Yellow Popular Trail. Follow the Yellow Poplar Trail to a left onto the Catoctin Trail and switch from the Park map to the PATC map. Continue up the Catoctin Trail across Hamburg Rd. to the right turn onto the trail leading to the small parking lot on Fishing Creek Rd. Directions: From Frederick MD, take Rt. 40 west to a right turn onto Gambrill Park Rd, follow roadway to top of mountain and into High Knob parking area. Directions to Shuttle Drop Off: From the parking area, continue northward on Gambrill Park Rd., to right onto Hamburg Rd., to left on Fishing Creek Rd., parking lot will be on your right near trailhead. Lunch: Famous Dave’s, 1003 W. Patrick St., Frederick MD 21702, . Exit park back to Rt. 40 towards Frederick, the restaurant will be on the left before you get to Rt. 15.

Saturday, July 8, 2006, 10:AM, Thurmont MD 21788, Catoctin Trail – Catoctin Furnace to Fishing Creek Rd, Self/Group guided casual hike. Trail Map: PATC Map 5. || TOPO Map || This is a difficult 4-hour, 7.5-mile point-to-point with a cumulative gain of 1,907 feet and a cumulative descent of 955 feet. Park and meet at the Info Center at Catoctin Furnace/Manor area of Cunningham Falls State Park. As a point-to-point, it will be necessary to shuttle one or more vehicles to the end point which is a parking lot on Fishing Creek Rd. From the parking area, follow the park trail to the Catoctin Trail and head south to the left turn onto the connecting trail to the Fishing Creek Rd. parking lot. Directions: From Frederick MD, take Rt. 15 north and watch for the park signs for the Manor Area on the left, turn left into the parking area. Directions to Shuttle Drop Off: From the parking area, head south on Rt. 15 to right on Putman Rd., to right onto Mountaindale Rd., left on Fishing Creek Rd., parking lot will be on the left across from trailhead. Lunch: Pack your own to eat along the trail.

Saturday, July 15, 2006, 10:AM, Thurmont MD 21788, Catoctin Trail – Catoctin Furnace to Cat Rock, Self/Group guided casual hike. Trail Map: PATC Map 5. || TOPO Map || This is a tough 4-hour, 7-mile loop with a cumulative gain of 1,510 feet and a cumulative descent of 1,510 feet. Park and meet at the Info Center at Catoctin Furnace/Manor area of Cunningham Falls State Park. From the parking area, follow the park trail to the Catoctin Trail and head north (right) and follow trail signs to Cat Rock for a brown bag lunch and return. Directions: From Frederick MD, take Rt. 15 north and watch for the park signs for the Manor Area on the left, turn left into the parking area. Lunch: Pack your own to eat along the trail.

Saturday, July 22, 2006, 10:AM, Thurmont MD 21788, Catoctin Trail – Cat Rock and Cunningham Falls, Self/Group guided casual hike. Trail Map: PATC Map 5. || TOPO Map || This is a tough 3-hour, 6-mile circuit with a cumulative gain of 1,247 feet and a cumulative descent of 1,247 feet. Park and meet in the small parking area on Catoctin Hollow Rd. near the dam. From here, use the PATC map to head up to Cat Rock, back out to the Catoctin Trail following it back down the mountain to the lake area, over to Cunningham Falls, and back around the lake to the parking area. Directions: From Frederick MD, take Rt. 15 north to Thurmont exiting onto Rt. 77 west. Follow Rt. 77 past the National Park Service Visitors Center (it’s a good idea to stop here before heading over to the parking area by the lake). Turn left onto Catoctin Hollow Rd. and watch for the parking lot on the right side of the road. Lunch: Mountain Gate Family Restaurant, 133 Frederick Rd., Thurmont MD 21788, . Exit back Rt. 77 to Rt. 15 south, go to the next exit, turn right towards Thurmond, turn left at light, and restaurant will be on your left.

Saturday, July 29, 2006, 10:AM, Thurmont MD 21788, Catoctin Trail – Zion Road Church to Cunningham Falls, Self/Group guided casual hike. Trail Map: PATC Map 5. || TOPO Map || This is a tough 3-4 hour, 7.5-mile loop with a cumulative gain and descent of 1,586 feet. Park and meet at the church on Zion Rd., from here hike to Cunningham Falls and return. Directions: From Frederick MD, take Rt. 15 north to Thurmont exiting onto Rt. 77 west. Follow Rt. 77 Quirauk School Rd to Zion Rd., church will be on your left. Lunch: Pack your own to eat along the trail.

This is an extreme 4-hour, 8 mile circuit with a cumulative gain and descent of 1,510 feet. Park and meet at the National Park Service Visitors Center. Starts at the Visitors Center, to Cunningham Falls, up to Hog Rock, Blue Ridge Summit Overlook, to Thurmont Vista, down to Wolf Rock, Chimney Rock, and back to the Visitors Center. Directions: From Frederick MD, take Rt. 15 north to Thurmont exiting onto Rt. 77 west. Follow Rt. 77 to the Visitors Center on your right. Lunch: Pack your own to eat along the trail.

Saturday, August 12, 2006, 10:AM, Frederick MD 21704, Monocacy National Battlefield Park, Self/Group guided casual hike. || || TOPO Map || This is an easy 2-hour, 4.3-mile circuit with a cumulative gain and descent of 307 feet. Park and meet at the Gambrill Mill Visitors Center. Tour this area of the park before driving to the area with the Worthington Farm Trail and follow the park map to the different points of interest. Directions: From I-495 take I-270 towards Frederick, take exit 26 onto Rt. 80 towards Urbana, turn left at stop sign onto Rt. 355 north. The Gambrill Mill Visitors Center is located on the right, 3.7 miles north on Rt. 355. Lunch: Barley and Hops Grill & Micro-Brewery, 5473 Urbana Pike, Frederick MD 21704, . Exit the park back onto Rt. 355 headed towards Frederick, the restaurant will be on the right as you approach the Francis Scott Key Mall.

On this loop, everyone hikes at their own pace for 1.5-hours, turns around, and returns to the starting point no later than 1:pm. Park and meet in the parking lot under the Rt. 15 bridge. From the parking lot, walk upriver for 1.5-hours and return. Directions: Get a map from MapQuest for Point of Rocks MD. Whether you come from Virginia north on Rt. 15 from Leesburg, or from Maryland south on Rt. 15 from Frederick, turn onto Rt. 28 east into Point of Rocks. Take a quick right onto service roadway leading down to C&O canal and boat launch area under the Rt. 15 bridge. Lunch: Aroma House, 1595 Bowis Dr, Point of Rocks, MD 21777, . Exiting from the parking area turn right onto Rt .28. The restaurant will be on the left in a small shopping center about a mile down the road.

On this loop, everyone hikes at their own pace for 2-hours, turns around, and returns to the starting point no later than 2:pm. Park and meet in the parking lot under the Rt. 15 bridge. From the parking lot, walk downriver for an hour and a half along the tow-path, turn around and come back. Directions: Get a map from MapQuest for Point of Rocks MD. Whether you come from Virginia north on Rt. 15 from Leesburg, or from Maryland south on Rt. 15 from Frederick, turn onto Rt. 28 east into Point of Rocks. Take a quick right onto service roadway leading down to C&O canal and boat launch area under the Rt. 15 bridge. Lunch: Aroma House, 1595 Bowis Dr, Point of Rocks, MD 21777, . Saturday, September 2, 2006, 10:AM, Dickerson MD 20842, Sugarloaf Mountain – Northern Peaks Trail, Self/Group guided casual hike. || || TOPO Map || A moderate, 3-hour, 6 mi circuit with a cumulative 1,100 ft. ascent and descent. Park and meet at the shelter in the West View (upper most) parking lot. From the shelter take the green blazed trail with a strenuous stair climb to the summit, then take the red blaze trail to a right onto the blue blazed Northern Peaks Trail (NPT). Use the trail map to continue along the NPT out to the White Rocks overlook and back to the West View parking area. Directions: From I-495 take I-270 North to exit 22. Turn right onto 109 (One Hundred Rd) to Comus. Turn right onto Comus Rd and continue to Stronghold. Turn right onto road marked as "Mountain Entrance" and drive up to the West View parking lot. Lunch: Pack your own lunch to eat at the White Rock overlook.

On this loop, everyone hikes at their own pace for 1.5-hours, turns around, and returns to the starting point no later than 1:pm. Park and meet at the parking area off of Mouth of Monocacy Rd. From the parking area, proceed to the canal and hike upriver for 1.5 hours and return. Directions: From I-495 take I-270 towards Frederick, take exit 6B onto Rt. 28 (W Montgomery Ave) westbound. Follow Rt. 28 through Dickerson and turn left onto Mouth of Monocacy Rd., follow it to the end and to an unimproved parking area for access to the canal and to the Monocacy River. Lunch: Fuddruckers, 12111 Darnestown Rd., Gaithersburg MD 20878, . From the parking area, head out to Rt. 28 southbound, the restaurant will be on the left just after crossing Quince Orchard Rd.

On this loop, everyone hikes at their own pace for 1.5-hours, turns around, and returns to the starting point no later than 1:pm. Park and meet at the parking area off of Mouth of Monocacy Rd. From the parking area, proceed to the canal and hike downriver for 1.5-hours and return. Directions: From I-495 take I-270 towards Frederick, take exit 6B onto Rt. 28 (W Montgomery Ave) westbound. Follow Rt. 28 through Dickerson and turn left onto Mouth of Monocacy Rd., follow it to the end and to an unimproved parking area for access to the canal and to the Monocacy River. Lunch: El Mexicano, 12150 Darnestown Rd, Gaithersburg MD 20878, . From the parking area, head out to Rt. 28 southbound, the restaurant will be on the right just after crossing Quince Orchard Rd. and in the shopping center behind the McDonalds.

Saturday, September 23, 2006, 10:AM, Clarksburg MD 20871, Little Bennett Regional Park – Whitetail Trail Circuit, Self/Group guided casual hike. || || TOPO Map || This is an easy 3-hour, 6-mile circuit with a cumulative gain and descent of 360 feet. Park and meet at the Maintenance Entrance parking area and the bottom of the park’s trail map. Using a combination of the different trails beginning with the Whitetail Trail, generally follow Soper’s Branch in a northwesterly direction to the parking area on Prescott Rd. return via the Bennett Ridge Trail, to Mound Builder Trail, to Stoney Brook Trail, to Hickory Hollow Trail to parking area. Directions: From I-495 take I-270 towards Frederick, take exit 18 onto Clarksburg Rd north, turn left onto Rt. 355 and watch for parking area and/or campground entrance on the right. Lunch: Comus Inn, 23900 Old Hundred Rd., Dickerson MD 20842, . Exit the park turning right onto Rt. 355 north, turn left onto Comus Rd., turn right onto Old Hundred Rd. and restaurant will be on your left.

Saturday, September 30, 2006, 10:AM, Clarksburg MD 20871, Little Bennett Regional Park – North Trails Circuit, Self/Group guided casual hike. || || TOPO Map || This is an easy 3-hour, 6-mile circuit with a cumulative gain and descent of 598 feet. Park and meet at the parking area off of Clarksburg Rd at the center of the park’s trail map. Using a combination of trails, begin by taking the Tobacco Barn Trail in a northwestern direction, turn left onto the Timber Ridge Trail toward the parking area on Prescott Rd, take the Pince Grove Trail to the parking area, take the Browning Run Trail, cross Clarksburg Rd staying on the upper trail to the Purdum Trail, turn right on the Purdum Trail and follow it down to the Kingsley Trail, turn right and continue to the parking area. Directions: From I-495 take I-270 towards Frederick, take exit 18 onto Clarksburg Rd north, turn right onto Hyattstown Mill Rd. and parking area will be on your left. Lunch: Applebee’s, 21048 Frederick Rd, Germantown MD 20876, . Exit the park back onto Rt. 355 headed south, the restaurant will be on the right after you cross Father Hurley Blvd near the Home Depot.

Saturday, October 7, 2006, 10:AM, Germantown MD 20876 Seneca Creek Stream Valley Park – Rt. 355 to Watkins Mill Rd Loop, Self/Group guided casual hike. || || TOPO Map || This is an easy 3-hour, 6-mile loop with a cumulative gain and descent of 215 feet. Park and meet at the parking area off of Rt. 355 at the bottom of the trail map. From here follow the marked trail to Watkins Mill Rd. and return. Directions: From I-495 take I-270 to exit 11 onto Rt. 124 east, to Rt. 355, turn left and proceed to parking area on the right. Lunch: India Palace, 19743 Frederick Rd, Germantown MD 20876, . Head north on Rt. 355, restaurant is on the right in a shopping center before you get to Middlebrook Rd.

The first part is an easy, 2-hour, 3.3-mile loop along the Cabin John Stream Valley Trail from MacArthur Blvd to Seven Locks Rd with a gain and descent of 140 feet. The second loop is an easy 1-hour, 2-mile loop to and through Glen Echo National Park and a tour through the Clara Barton House with minimal gain and descent. Park and meet in the Cabin John Park parking lot off of MacArthur Blvd, hike upstream to Seven Locks Rd, turn right and walk along Seven Locks to re-enter park trail, continue upstream along trail to turnaround at second crossing of Seven Locks, return. Fort the second loop, continue from the parking lot to MacArthur Blvd, turn left and walk along MacArthur Blvd to Glen Echo Park, tour the park and take the walkway to the Clara Barton House, tour the house and return to the parking lot via MacArthur Blvd. Additional info: Clara Barton National Historic Site, 5801 Oxford Rd, Glen Echo, MD 20812, . Then take the east side of the Stone Fort Trail out to POI 9, 8, 7and 6. Back along the Westside trail and depending on time, back out for a second photo op at POI 12. Otherwise, continue back down to the trailhead. Directions: Get Mapquest map for Sandy Hook MD. From Rt. 340 turn east onto Keep Tryst Rd, turn right onto Sandy Hook Rd., proceed to trailhead and park in marked areas. There is very limited parking in this area and you may find it easier to park in the parking lot for the National Park, take the shuttle into Harpers Ferry, walk across the bridge to the Maryland side of the river, and a short walk upriver to the trailhead. Turn right onto Keadle Rd to the second trailhead near the intersection with Boonsboro Mt. Rd. Follow the center trail back to the entrance roadway, turn left, and head back to the beach area. Directions: From Frederick MD, take I-70 West to exit #42, bear right onto Rt. 17 North, go into the center of Myersville and Rt. 17 will turn right. Park and meet in the small parking area on Rt. 40 near the AT crossing. As a point-to-point, it will be necessary to shuttle one or more vehicles to the end point which is at the end of White Oak Rd. From the parking lot, take the trail down to I-70 where you will pick up the AT. Follow the AT northward with side trips out to Annapolis Rock and Black Rock overlooks. Continue northward on the AT to the Pogo Memorial Campground where you will turn left onto the Thurston Griggs Trail. Follow this trail down to the pickup point at the end of White Oak Rd. If this is being done as a loop, Black Rock is a typical mid-point and you can retrace your steps from this overlook back to the Rt. 40 parking area. Directions: From Frederick MD, take I-70 West to exit #42, bear right onto Rt. 17 North, go into the center of Myersville and Rt. 17 will turn right. Follow Rt. 17 to the flashing lights at the intersection of Rt. 40. Turn left onto Rt. 40 west. Watch for the parking area on the left just before you cross I-70. Follow the Yellow Poplar Trail to a left onto the Catoctin Trail and switch from the Park map to the PATC map. Continue up the Catoctin Trail across Hamburg Rd. to the right turn onto the trail leading to the small parking lot on Fishing Creek Rd. Directions: From Frederick MD, take Rt. 40 west to a right turn onto Gambrill Park Rd, follow roadway to top of mountain and into High Knob parking area. Park and meet at the parking area off of Clarksburg Rd at the center of the park’s trail map. Using a combination of trails, begin by taking the Tobacco Barn Trail in a northwestern direction, turn left onto the Timber Ridge Trail toward the parking area on Prescott Rd, take the Pince Grove Trail to the parking area, take the Browning Run Trail, cross Clarksburg Rd staying on the upper trail to the Purdum Trail, turn right on the Purdum Trail and follow it down to the Kingsley Trail, turn right and continue to the parking area. Directions: From I-495 take I-270 towards Frederick, take exit 18 onto Clarksburg Rd north, turn right onto Hyattstown Mill Rd. and parking area will be on your left. Directions: From I-495 take I-270 to exit 16A onto Rt. 27 east (Father Hurley Blvd., cross Rt. 355 and continue to follow Rt. 27 to right onto Bethesda Church Rd., to right onto Rt. 124 Woodfield Rd., to right onto Valley Park Dr., to parking on right. From here follow the marked trail to Huntsman Rd. and return. Directions: From I-495 take I-270 to exit 15A onto Rt. 118 east, cross Rt. 355. After traffic circle, Germantown Rd. changes names and becomes Watkins Mill Rd. Parking lot and trailhead will be on the left after crossing Seneca Creek. Lunch: Jaspers, 19961 Century Blvd., Germantown MD 20874, . Head back to Germantown Rd., cross I-270 and turn right at first light, Jaspers will be on the left caddy corner from Regal Theaters. Directions: From I-495 take the Georgia Ave exit northbound, to left onto Rt. 650 (New Hampshire Ave) to left onto Sundown Rd, to left onto Zion Rd, to left into parking. Directions: From I-495 take the Georgia Ave exit northbound, in Olney turn left onto Rt. 108 (Olney Laytonsville Rd) turn right onto Zion Rd, cross Brookeville Rd, turn left into parking area. Directions: From I-495 take I-270 northbound to exit 9a for I-370 (Sam Eig Hwy) eastbound, exit onto Shady Grove Rd northbound, turn right at light onto Muncaster Mill Rd, turn left at light onto Muncaster Rd, turn left into park to parking area. Park and meet at the Boat House (point 4 on the park map), proceed up along the right side of the lake on the Needwood Trail, turn left onto the Mudcart Trail, turn left onto Beach Dr., turn left onto Needwood Rd., turn left onto Westside Trail, turn left onto Blue Heron Trail for a short distance, turning left again onto the Westside Trail following it to the intersection with the Rock Creek Hiker Biker Trail, turn right, cross Southlawn Ln., turn right onto the connector to Lake Frank, hike up to the dam, reverse direction back to the Boat House. Directions: From I-270, take exit 6 onto Rt. 28 (West Montgomery Ave) eastbound, follow Rt. 28 through Rockville, go several miles and turn left onto Avery Rd., proceed to left onto Needwood Lake Dr, turn left onto Beach Dr., turn right onto Needwood Lake Dr and follow signs to the Boat House.
